Comments Submitted by Texas Watch to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary
The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing this week to investigate the effect of forced arbitration on American workers and families. Arbitration clauses placed in the small print by corporations can have a big impact on you, depriving you of your day in court if you are harmed. You can watch the hearing here.
We submitted written comments, urging the committee to protect workers and consumers, stating "[a]rbitration should never be used to silence victims or deprive deserving individuals or classes of justice." You can read our comments below. We will follow with information in the weeks ahead on how you can make your voices heard to protect your Seventh Amendment right to trial by jury. You should never have to waive a crucial constitutional right in order to work or buy a product in our country.
