In the News: "Forced Bundling" Hurts Policyholders
Consumer reporter Diana Zoga with NBC 5 in DFW has broken the story of a major insurance company telling a consumer they would have to purchase auto insurance to keep their homeowners insurance coverage. This "forced bundling" hurts consumers by limiting their choices. We stated in the article, "Any insurance company scheme that requires us to buy two policies from them is anti-consumer."
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is in the early stages of potentially developing a rule that would prohibit this on the grounds that it is unfair trade practice. We filed written comments with TDI in support of their informal draft, encouraging them to adopt a formal rule that will protect consumers.
